after weeks of planning and searching for models and the gowns, veil, tie, etc. that will be used by our models, we were finally able to conduct our club's first wedding photography class. many many thanks to the willing models (mavic and sherwin), the instructor (ferdie) and to all those who helped make the class such a happy and fun event. thanks to rica who let us borrow the gown she wore for her own wedding. special thanks of course to mavic for stepping up when the original bride had to cancel for the event. you were such a lovely bride!
there are so many learnings that day, and here are a few which i thought made an impact on me most:
- the preferred shirt colors for wedding photographers are gray or dark blue. i used to think it was white.
- when you create a service contract, you need to think of protecting yourself. be explicit in saying that you will not be covering any family dinner or gathering that will take place after the official reception.
- if the reception is not well-organized or does not have a program, be prepared to drive the ceremony yourself. you need to know the customs traditionally observed during receptions such as the eating of the cake, the drinking of the wine which follows after the best man's toast, the first dance, the release of the doves, etc.
for photos during the class, please feel free to visit my multiply or flickr site. your comments and critiques are welcome. thanks!
